Mallorca 2019
Activity Trip to Mallorca, Spain, 7th to 14th May 2019
Day 1
After a very early start, we had a smooth check in at Heathrow, where all airport staff and British Airways were very helpful - they even gave us vouchers for free breakfast. All pupils were very well-behaved on the flight, and Joshua said goodbye to every single passenger as they left the plane.
All pupils had a stretch while we unpacked and then had a look around the hotel. Dinner was amazing and now everyone is very tired and ready for bed. Looking forward to golf tomorrow.
Day 2
Everyone had a tricky start to the day as we were overwhelmed by the choice for breakfast. Pupils loved the pancakes and also the buffet of fresh fruit.
We spent the morning going for a long walk by the beach enjoying the sights. After a quick drink by the pool, we had an appetising lunch before we headed off to the Golf Club.
We had a very exciting 4 hours of golf with the opportunity to use the ParaGolfer machines, where the pupils could stand to play golf. They also got to travel around the course on the golf buggies and scooters. Simmi would like a scooter for Christmas, please! Lindsey won the adult golf competition and celebrated in style.
We returned back to the hotel to any array of food, including freshly cooked steak to order, roast beef, pizza, salad and more. Kai and Ellie get particularly excited when it is dinner time.
Before we retired for the evening, we were entertained by acrobats, and the boys watched the first half of the Spurs match. An amazing but tiring day!
Day 3
Another great start to the day with a healthy selection for breakfast followed by shopping for souvenirs along the promenade.
After lunch we had an exciting and interesting journey towards the mountains through some very narrow streets. Once at our destination, we had a fantastic afternoon in the Superfour vehicles going off road and driving up the mountain. We had beautiful weather and scenery, and even some goats came to visit. We have just finished dinner and are looking forward to the disco and dancing this evening.
Day 4
Friday was an activity-free day, so we took the opportunity to go swimming. Everyone had a swim in the morning and the afternoon. The pool was cold at first but lovely and warm when we got out. Ellie did some aqua gym, and Joshua also played some shuffle board by the pool. We all had a stretch in the sun and enjoyed the ice lollies to cool us down.
After showers and dinner, we went to watch the sunset by the beach and did a little shopping in the local market stalls. With the pupils' charm and Lindsey’s bartering skills we came away with some good souvenirs. We had an entertaining evening, which we all look forward to sharing with you when we get back.
Day 5
Pupils had a relaxing morning while we gathered all the equipment ready for the adventurous day ahead. We travelled across to Palma Nova Marina, where we were met by our instructors. We transferred the pupils onto the very nice speed boat and headed out onto the sea. They took turns in having a go at water skiing off the back of the boat. Simmi said “It was out of this world! “, and the staff were very emotional watching them enjoying themselves. After a spin in the speed boat, we walked along the promenade to the other side of the beach for a quick snack before trying to put wetsuits on!
Once the wetsuits were on, they went into the sea with the Hippocampe wheelchairs. Snorkelling proved a bit tricky in the waves, but they enjoyed the opportunity of going for a swim in the sea. This was topped off by a 10-minute sunbathe to dry off and burying Ellie in the sand.
After returning to the hotel and washing all the sand off, we had a late dinner, watched the magician in the hotel and then headed off to bed - everyone was completed exhausted after such an amazing day!
Day 6
After a tired start, we headed off walking to the Aquarium. Joshua and Kai loved watching the sharks being fed. The staff loved watching the colour-changing water tank with the jellyfish in- we would love one in the sensory room! Ellie loved everything, including Tom being silly as he had too many espressos for breakfast. Simmi loved everything about the Aquarium. Thank you to the Rotary Club for paying for our entry; we had a great time! We walked back to the hotel and finished our souvenir shopping in the afternoon.
The pupils are looking forward to the Disney Entertainment this evening.
Day 7
We all had a fantastic evening dancing to the Disney Entertainment last night.
After breakfast we packed up our equipment and clothes ready for going home tomorrow, then we had a quiet drink by the pool before lunch.
We headed for the grand Marina in Palma to complete our last activity of the week.
Simmi went in the Zodiac speed boat and Ellie, Kai and Joshua transferred to the sailing boat. We headed off on a tour around the Marina in awe of the boats and cruise ships moored around us. Once out into the open water, we had an amazing view of the cathedral and surroundings. We had a fantastic time!
We have all had the most amazing week and would like to thank everyone for the grants we have received and the parents for letting us take their pupils on this adventure. Kai’s favourite activity was the golf, while Simmi, Ellie and Joshua loved the water skiing.
See you all on Wednesday!
